The garden of our previous home went right into the Pentland Firth and we regularly experienced amazing summer sunsets.
This Lonesome Pine is just off the main road near Loch Maree and used to be a regular stopping of point for coffee & cake!
We're so fortunate living in rural Caithness as we often get the chance to see the aurora and I thoroughly enjoy the chance to paint them.
This is an extract from the first pastel I ever sold and was inspired by the sea which came crashing in at the end of the garden at our previous house.
Just along the road from our house is a track which take you to Freswick Beach. In the summer it is edged with Sea Rocket and looks wonderful.

There's nothing quite like the colour of birch trees in the autumn!
This is an extract from the first oil painting I sold. It is the view we are privileged to have from the sun room at the back of our house.
Sometimes I like to be a little more abstract - we have some stunning poppies in our garden.
I used to surf when I lived in South Africa and have always loved the sea.
I was very happy with this painting, although Janet said it was very difficult to photograph because the colours were quite dark!
Extract of a pastel of a winter storm with huge waves hitting Stroma which lies in the Pentland Firth.
This is one of our favourite places on Orkney. This painting extract is from a wild March day, with the wind blowing in from the Atlantic.
This was a fun painting to do - not too realistic but I was happy with the result!
Spring and autumn sunsets are probably the most vibrant here in Skirza as the sun sets to the west of our house. They are all so different each time - some fiery, some almost menacing and some just warming and almost calming at the end of the day.
This was the rocky shoreline at the end of our garden at our previous house overlooking the Pentland Firth.
There's nothing quite like a traditional Scottish thistle!
This was a most enjoyable painting with a touch of gold paint splashed for added effect.
